1971-8-17 Five different processes are used in the portland cement industry to accomplish thepyroprocessing step: the wet process, the dry process (long dry process), the semidry process, the dryprocess with a preheater, and the dry process with a preheater/precalciner. Each of these processesaccomplishes the physical/chemical steps defined above. However, the processes vary with respect toequipment design, method of operation, and fuel consumption. Generally, fuel consumption decreasesin the order of the processes listed. The paragraphs below briefly describe the process, starting withthe wet process and then noting differences in the other processes.
